The most anticipated thought leadership experiential event of the year, Sahara Sparks has kicked off today (September 23rd) with thought leadership panel discussions and dialogue on strategic areas of skills development and the potential of leveraging innovation and technology to ultimately build an acquainted workforce with potential to thrive in the ever-evolving digital age, particularly now with the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in work environment.
Sahara Sparks 2024 kicked off with a panel discussion and dialogue on AI and the Future of Journalism. The thought leadership panel discussion was conducted in partnership with Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF) where participants deliberated on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in journalism. In attendance were journalists, AI enthusiasts and other media stakeholders.
The dialogue session was one among a series of events leading up to the climax of Sahara Sparks 2024 which is slated for September 27th and 28th at Mlimani City, Dar es Salaam. Themed People Skills Future, the high-level event will see participants engage in thought leadership dialogues on various strategic and pressing issues in skill development and strategizing on leveraging emerging technologies and innovation to create sustainable employment opportunities.
Speaking at a press conference, Director General of Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), Dr Amos Nungu who is scheduled to attend the main event as the Chief Guest, commended Sahara Ventures for taking the initiative to champion a thought leadership experiential high-level event that brings together key stakeholders to initiate strategic dialogue on People Skills and the Future.
“Over 800,000 young people join the labour market every year, yet our capacity for skills development as stipulated in the National Five-Year Development Plan II, remains meagre, meaning we need development partners intervention to complement government’s efforts towards attaining a skilled workforce as we leverage technology to create a sustainable tech-entrepreneurship ecosystem,” said Dr. Nungu.
Sahara Venture CEO, Jumanne Mtambalike, said, “as we champion the conversation on People Skills and Future in the digital age, we have strategically aligned our topics of discussions and dialogue with some of the prioritized sectors within the National Skills Development Strategy i.e. agriculture, agro-economy, informational and communication technology (ICT). Our thought-provoking panel discussions with thought leaders of these sectors are geared to ultimately entice systemic interventions in the labour market in this digital era.”
The climax event will entail dialogue sessions on Edtech, envisioning digital Tanzania 2050, AI and the Future of Work, growing businesses in nascent markets and panel discussion on startup and corporate engagement.
Sahara Sparks is an elaborate thought leadership event that brings together stakeholders from private sector, startups ecosystem and investors. Furthermore, the experiential event provides a platform for tech startups from various sectors to showcase their innovative solutions. Startups that are expected to showcase their solution at the two-day event include Edtech and Agriculture startups.
